HSE Advisor (Civils / Highways)

Location: UK
Salary: £45,000 - £55,000 + benefits

We are currently supporting a major construction and civil engineering contractor in the search for an HSE Advisor to support the safe delivery of civils and highways projects.

This role will work closely with operational teams to ensure the effective implementation of health, safety and environmental standards across site activities. The successful candidate will play a key role in promoting a proactive safety culture, providing practical guidance to project teams and supporting continuous improvement across project delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Undertake regular site inspections and audits to ensure compliance with company standards and relevant legislation

  • Provide practical HSE advice and guidance to site teams and subcontractors

  • Support the safe delivery of civils and highways activities including earthworks, excavations, temporary works, lifting operations and traffic management

  • Promote a positive and proactive safety culture across projects

  • Support the reporting and investigation of incidents, accidents and near misses

  • Monitor the close out of actions arising from inspections, audits and investigations

  • Support project teams in the development and review of Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS)

  • Assist with HSE meetings, toolbox talks and site safety briefings

  • Engage with the supply chain to promote compliance and best practice across project activities

  • Support project teams during audits, client inspections and compliance reviews

  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of HSEQ systems, processes and procedures

What we're looking for:

  • Experience working in a Health & Safety role within construction, civils, utilities or highways projects

  • Good understanding of health and safety legislation and industry best practice

  • Experience undertaking inspections, audits and supporting incident investigations

  • Confident working with operational teams and influencing safe behaviours on site

  • Strong communication and organisational skills
